DescriptionMaterfad Materials Centre in Barcelona performs a research and technological surveillance task in the field of new materials and provides consultancy and training services for companies, professionals, universities and technology centres. Its aim is to facilitate technological transfer between widely different sectors such as biotechnology, construction, transport or textiles, among others.
For the Autonomous Bus Shelter and Step-Lux projects, Materfad supplied the necessary information and advice on materials and design in order to integrate the piezoelectric device into floors and urban pavements.

Autonomous Bus Shelter

Autonomous Bus Shelter is the union of two projects (Glass Shelter / Step Lux) to generate energetically autonomous interactive street furniture.

At this stage the project team is seeking partners to support the production of the combined project.

Glass-Shelter
Completely transparent bus stop that integrates photovoltaic cells, LED lighting and multimedia displays with interactive information. The project, awarded a Red Dot Design Award 2014, has been developed by architects Borgos and Pieper, together with Cricursa.

Step-Lux
A pavement that transforms the transit of buses and passengers into electricity for the needs of the bus shelter, thanks to the capabilities of piezoelectric materials. The technical project was carried out by Materfad, Elisava and Leitat.
