The Borough Council is responsible for the overall management of Basildon which is the home to over 175,000 residents and more than 6,500 businesses employing around 85,000.
Basildon is the second largest economy in the Thames Gateway region outside of Canary Wharf in the UK.
The Borough is home to international names such as the Ford Motor Company (automotive research and development), Selex Galileo (military guidance systems and civil aeronautics), Konica Minolta (printing), New Holland Agriculture (only tractor plant in the UK) as well as major financial services companies such as IFDS and also hosts a vibrant SME sector.

Smart City Governance & Leadership
Basildon Council is actively pursuing its International development work, with a special focus on the Smart City opportunity in India. It is offering its expertise to successfully manage a Smart City as a practitioner consultant.
For the past sixty years Basildon Council has accumulated vast amounts of expertise in developing and implementing multimillion projects in areas such as Good & E Governance, Leadership skills for Senior Town Centre Management, Waste Management Strategy, Regeneration and Economic Development, Affordable and Social Housing.
As a practitioner consultant, with our team of experts we are ready to transfer that experience and support aspiring smart cities worldwide.
Basildon Council has successfully signed up two memorandum of understanding with two cities in India to support them in their Smart City initiatives.
